Kevin is selecting floor tiles for his room in his family's new house. No tiles will be put down in the closets. Each tile is 1 foot square and costs $0.60. All the intersecting sides of the tiles meet at right angles.

It will cost Kevin one hundred seventeen dollars and six cents($117.06). He needed one hundred ninety six tiles to fill his whole room, not including the closets.
room is 120 square feet
closet 1 is 16 square feet
closet 2 is 18 square feet
16+18 = 34
120-34 = 86 square feet
86 x .60 = $51.60

The room is 10*12= 120 square feet.
Then you take out 16 square feet for one closet. Then you take out 18 square feet for the other closet. For a total space remaining is 86 square feet. The total cost of tiles if there are no tiles left over is $51.60.

14 ft x 15 ft = 210
210 - 16ft - 18 ft for closets = 176
176 x .60 = $105.60 cost of tiles
